NPPS online courses provide a supportive learning environment where students will have virtual access to instructors that foster dialogue and challenge thinking through interactive, online discussion boards, learning modules, and assignments.
All courses are self-driven, allowing learners to complete the course at their own pace.
In this course, you’ll explore the roles and responsibilities of outdoor supervision through the Supervision ABC’s — Anticipation, Behavior, and Consideration — to keep children safe in outdoor play environments. You’ll walk away with the understanding of how to identify potential playground hazards, navigate the behaviors of students and fellow supervisors, and consider emergency planning in the outdoor environment.
Customized to the unique needs of child care centers and preschools, “Playground Supervision for Child Care Providers” will equip you with outdoor supervision practices that follow our Supervision ABC model (Anticipation, Behavior, Consideration).
In this course, you’ll become an Early Childhood Outdoor Play Inspector, enabling you to inspect outdoor play areas in early childhood settings for children ages birth to 6 years. You’ll learn how to inspect the outdoor play environment for good physical layout and visual supervision, an appropriate environment, appropriate fall surface materials, ADA compliance, and equipment maintenance issues, and consider how to bring curricular components into the outdoor environment.
Through this course, you’ll be equipped with the knowledge and skills to be a certified inspector of outdoor play areas and playgrounds for elementary schools, youth programs, and community-based programs for children ages 5-12 years. You’ll learn how to inspect the outdoor play area for good physical layout and visual supervision, an appropriate environment, ADA compliance, appropriate fall surface materials, common play components, and athletic fields, fitness equipment, and asphalt areas.
